rolling stone dzhokhar tsarnaev 7 eleven cvs cover ban boycott

By now, you know our stance on Rolling Stone's decision to put Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (one of the Boston Bombers) on the cover of their magazine: they had every right to do it, but that doesn't mean they should have.

First we heard that CVS was taking a stand against the insensitive placement, one that is usually an honor for those who are lucky enough to get on the cover because it's a sign of having 'made it' to fame. Now, we're hearing that the magazine has been pulled out of nearly 2,000 7-Eleven stores, with more on the horizon.

Here's what the rep for the store said:

"[7-Eleven] will not sell the Aug. 1 issue of the Rolling Stone magazine in its company-operated stores."

To clarify, there are 1,700 company operated stores, but also another 5,900 franchises privately owned. They'll be urging the franchises to do the same!

While RS has the right to put whatever they want on the cover, we're glad we're seeing stores exercising their right not to carry it!

I haven't read the story, but if it's a serious piece then I think we need to resist the temptation to make it go away. The question on the cover is the one we need to be asking.

The problem is not him being on the cover, it's the picture that they chose. they should have chosen a mug shot or something NOT a picture where he looks like a rockstar - that sends a very dangerous message. What if someone thinking of doing something horrible sees this cover and think "I should do it, I would be cool and be on the cover of a magazine"?

It's very irresponsible of RS however they try to justify it.

Mario Posted dozens of pictures of this guy but suddenly is offended when some one else does. Hypocrite much!!!

whoever decided to give him rockstar iconic cool status with that cover should be FIRED simple as. the article itself is a different matter but the RS cover is something artists strive to get their whole career. its a defining moment of achievement. and they go hand it to a guy who plants a bag with a bomb in it in a crowd of people? a COWARDLY act by any standards. they should be ashamed for lowering the standards of their own magazine. theyve insulted every victim of that day.

The is no groundbreaking story here just a bunch of pieces taken from other media outlets and pasted together to make it appear as if there's something new to sell the unsuspecting public.

stupid scandal by a cover of a magazine. bitter people. I'm going to buy the magazine. I'm interested in the case. Just a reminder for a lot of ignorant people: Jahar has not actually been convicted of anything. He pleaded not guilty. My opinion: I think this boy is innocent!!

I wonder if RS editors would have still immortalized this monster on their cover had one of their loved ones been blown to bits or witnessed a child hold together one of their limbs…the story would have sold itself without the poster pinup!

You can only ask RS why they didnt do a feature on Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein - What is this 'Terrorist monthly'!?! They don't deserve the attention. it's disgusting.

I think all stores should ban this rolling stone cover .He is not a rock star his action effected the nation and all citizens . He should be in handcuffs in a jump suit or in a straight jacket then this would be appropriate .No body should get merit for inproper behavior . He hurt lives and family's.
