The NHL has finally come to a deal with the International Ice Hockey Federation… and guess what?? The NHL's players can play in the Olympics!
The matter of contention here is that they'll have to put next season on hold — which is going to be costly, because last season the same thing happened due to the lockout! At least it'll be for a better reason this time around!
Here's what the NHL commissioner had to say:
"Our outstanding athletes take tremendous pride in representing their homelands on the global stage. The decision to participate in the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi was in many ways a difficult one, but one that we know will be well received by our players and, most importantly, by the vast majority of our fans and sports fans everywhere."
Basically, all the details have finally been worked out, and they've worked out in a way that will allow the players to play without much interference to the actual NHL season. This also means that the NHL is set to reveal the schedule for the upcoming regular season! The 2013-14 regular season will begin Oct. 1!
We say it's totally worth it — the Olympics are a big deal, and they're a big deal for players that might not have another shot down the road!
