In beer drinking contests, winners are also losers — who in their right minds would do this, knowing full well about alcohol poisoning??
Not Joaquin Alcaraz Garcia, as he is no longer alive because of it. After winning the beer drinking prize at a festival in Spain — downing six liters of beer — he held up his trophy… and then began to vomit uncontrollably.
Heres what a witness said:
"He had drunk six litres of beer, and when he won he lifted the trophy. Then he just started to vomit without stopping and he never spoke again."
How can a dangerous competition like this even exist? Tradition. The only rule is that contestants have to down as many litre-glasses of beer as they can in 20 minutes.
Emergency officials were called after ten minutes of vomiting and what appeared to be Garcia passed out and snoring — but he was actually in cardiac arrest!
Here's where it gets ridiculous: the local mayor, José Manuel Gracia, told reporters the cause of death was not yet clear.
WHAT?? IT WAS THE 6 LITERS OF BEER HE CONSUMED AT A RAPID PACE! It's time to shut that shizz down, even if it's a long tradition! We can't even believe that banning it wasn't the first step!
Poor guy must've grown up in an area that had an awful competition like this as a way of life and probably glorified, so of COURSE he'd participate! It's not dangerous, it's a tradition — straight from the Mayor's mouth!
This was 100% avoidable!
