For the past 8 years, ESPN and NASCAR have been in a very loving relationship, and at least on the surface, everything seemed to be going perfectly!
But apparently the popular auto racing franchise has had eyes for another and will be leaving ESPN after the 2014 season!!
So what channel do you have to go to to get your car fix on?? Well NASCAR has just announced that they have signed onto 10-year deal with NBC that starts in 2015!!
"NBC is known for being an exceptional partner and delivering outstanding production quality and presentation of live sports, as well as its broad portfolio of broadcast and digital properties, so we are thrilled with the commitment they have made to NASCAR and its future."
Well it sounds like the deal worked out for NASCAR! But what about ESPN??
President John Skipper hid his sadness in a statement, and said:
"ESPN has enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with NASCAR. We have tremendous respect for the France family, the drivers and all in the sport and wish them well. We will continue to serve NASCAR fans through SportsCenter and our other news platforms as we continue to enhance our industry-leading collection of quality assets."
Wow! Sounds like ESPN is taking the news pretty well! Although there's a good chance they're listening to some Taylor Swift at this very moment! LOLz!
There's no news yet on just how much the deal is worth, but apparently NBC is paying NASCAR as much as 50% more than what they were currently being paid!!
Breaking up is never easy to do, but don't worry ESPN. There are plenty of other fish in the sea!!
