university of florida removes brick commemorating aaron hernandez

Shortly after he was arrested and charged with Odin Lloyd's murder, the University of Florida began to completely erase any trace or reminder of Aaron Hernandez.

Now the college campus has finally gotten rid of the last piece of memorabilia as they removed a brick commemorating his final season in 2009.

Aaron was named a first team All-American that year, and the school has a tradition of honoring player who received the award by placing bricks their their names on it outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, but the school ultimately decided to get rid of it.

The University of Florida released a statement on the move, saying:

"We didn't feel it was appropriate to celebrate Aaron Hernandez. We put together an immediate plan after the initial news broke to remove his likeness and name in various private and public areas in the facility, such as the South Endzone team area, locker room, football offices, Heavener Complex, Kornblau Lobby and the brick display entrance to the football facility. We were able to implement some of the changes immediately and this [brick removal] was a more complex process to complete with our vendors. The plan was to have everything completed before the end of July."

It certainly makes sense that the school would want to completely erase Aaron from their memory, and they aren't the only ones doing it.

The New England Patriots immediately cut the tight end from their roster after the news of his arrest and gave their fans the opportunity to trade in their Hernandez jerseys for new ones, free of charge.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio also decided to get rid of an award winning photograph that showed Aaron celebrating as he trots into the end zone.

Hopefully the move allows the University of Florida to distance themselves from him completely and focus on the future.
