Workers for the minor league Brooklyn Cyclones we're shocked when they arrived at the ballpark and found a statue of MLB legend Jackie Robinson covered in graffiti!
According to witnesses, the statue was defaced as vandals painted swastikas as well as racial and anti-semetic slurs all over it.
Detective John Nevandro is currently investigating the horrible act and says it is currently being treated as a hate crime:
"This is being treated as a bias crime. Hate Crimes will investigate the incident."
The statue depicted an iconic moment in the history of baseball when Pee Wee Reese put his arm around Jackie at Crosley Field in Cincinnati to show support for his heavily scrutinized teammate.
Employees were able to remove most of the graffiti from the statue itself, but are having difficulty getting rid of markings on the stone base.
A spokesperson for the Cyclones says they have surveillance footage from outside the ballpark, so hopefully they will be able to find the person or people who were behind such an ugly crime.
