Here's an interesting question: why doesn't cancer research have UNLIMITED FUNDING?
We feel like that would be a much better use of money, than say, however much it costs to store chemical weapons, or fund the NSA spying program. Right??
According to a new report, the number of cancer survivors living in the United States last year was nearly 2 million more than there were in 2008 — with a number higher than 13.7 million!
That's awesome, right? Well, the number of Americans who die is also expected to rise — which means more people are getting cancer overall. This also means that cancer will soon be the #1 disease-related killer of Americans.
More people survive the disease than in the past, so more funding is needed to keep that trend going! Apparently as of today one in 23 Americans is a cancer survivor! Compare that to 1971 where just one in 69 was!
With the budding reliability and power of cancer immunology — using the body's own immune system to fight the battle — we can't stop where we are funding-wise and expect the pace to quicken!
We need more money for more science!
