McDonald's Will Start Offering Fruits, Veggies, And Side Salads To Promote Healthier Eating!

mcdonalds to start offering healthier items on their menu

If you've ever ordered a Big Mac and found yourself thinking "This would go really great with some carrot sticks," your dreams may have finally true!

McDonald's has announced that they are making some super-sized steps to try and make their menu a bit more healthy by offering fruit, veggies, and side salads as a substitution for french fries!

The fast food chain decided it was time to make a change in hopes of promoting better eating habits, especially with their advertisements aimed toward children!

McDonald's will still offer soda with Happy Meals, however, they will only have ads that show kid's meals with milk and juice. They will also try to make veggies and fruit more appealing by offering them in more brightly colored packaging.

Some of these options are already available in places such as France, but they're hoping to roll out their healthier menu in more locations over the next few years!

The company has been criticized lately for their marketing campaigns, but they're hoping that by changing their message, they can undo some of the damage and promote healthier eating habits!

Although we're not quite sure that a greasy hamburger and a side of apple slices qualifies as a healthy meal, this at least looks like a step in the right direction!

    They have done this in the UK for years now! They show Happy Meals with carrot sticks, grapes and milk/water.

    Why do people eat at such shit places in the first place? If they actually cooked at home they'd spend less and eat healthier. I can see traveling or something maybe, but for most lazy asses it's a lifestyle. Disgusting. Glad I didn't grow up on crap food and learned to cook healthy meals.

    I'd be more impressed if they started cooking authentic food made of from authentic, organic ingredients. That would impress me. Their shit is so processed and gross. Throwing in a few fruits and veggies isn't gonna cut it, especially when those wont be fresh either.

    You don't get fat from eating a Big Mac every once in awhile. You get fat from eating a Big Mac every day and not working out. McDonald's isn't making you fat; being lazy is making you fat. I have been eating McDonald's my whole life and have never had a weight problem.

    Re: beach – I don't know, don't eat it often but I just ate a BBQ Honey Garlic chicken breast, a BBQ pork chop, and some fried rice, I'm full, but that Mac and fries looks great right now…. I'm not fat either

    In moderation like once, twice, three times a year, it's great.

    They already offer a side salad here in California, and I really like their fruit and walnut snack once in awhile. But every once in awhile, you need that Quarter Pounder with cheese.

    Yes, because it is the food that is making people fat, it has nothing to do with actual parenting, or being mature enough to make wise choices. Everything in moderation people, seriously!

    Give me a break. No one eats at Mcd's to be healthy. Defeats the purpose.

    My kids know it is an occassional treat and not an every day thing.

    I honestly feel bad for kids whose parents make them get apples and milk, no one goes to mc'd s thinking "Mmm mcdonalds has the best apples" they go for the fries.

    Whatever happened to teaching kids about moderation?

    We have had this for years in Australia. All happy meals have fruit as al alternative as well as all meals you can change it from chips to a salad. It's pretty popular plus we have the cafe section and all our meals show the fat content on the menu so you know exactly how much that super sized meal is going to be and below that they tell you how much is the recommended daily intake is and if you still buy it then you can't moan all that stuff is already there in plain site. It works cause sometimes if I feel the need for maccas and go for the fatty version see the fat content and change my order to whichever has the lesser KJ's

    Considering they've already been doing this in many countries around the world, McDonalds US is a little behind. About time! Heck, I'm in the United Arab Emirates and you can get fruit, salad and milk with your food instead of fries. A good move, but a late one!

    They've done this since forever in Sweden. And people really do buy and eat it too! The side salad is great actually and the fruit too! The US is just really behind on this one..
