If the Boston bombers' goal was to create a stronger Boston, and to motivate individuals to turn a negative into a positive while making their lives better, well, we guess they succeeded!
If they wanted to cause terror, though, it was short lived and SUCH A FAILURE. Boston is badass, and the people are SO STRONG.
Take Mery Daniel, for instance. She lost part of her leg and her entire foot at the Boston Marathon bombing, and had never really found the motivation to enter an athletic race or anything of the sort.
But guess what! She's now a racer because of it, and uses her near-death experience as a positive driving force in her life! It doesn't matter if she has a prosthetic leg, because she's already completed four races… including one that was 27 miles, riding a hand-cycle.
Here's what she had to say:
"Time is just an illusion really. [Racing is] something I actually always wanted to do before the accident, but I got more of a drive for it, more of a determination afterwards."
She lost her left leg below the knee, so despite the prosthetic, she still has to use a hand cycle — which is fine, because she's IN LOVE with it!!
She continued about the sport, and the race being for Charity:
"What I love about it is that sense of completion every time you finish a race. Especially because you're helping. I'm very proud and excited that the Charles River Center is bringing awareness to autism. I think it's a very good cause."
While the bombing was awful and we wish it had never happened, there's something to be said that no matter what occurred, nothing changed for the worse — things only got better and stronger!
We wish any future terrorists would understand that nothing they do will work, or could work, to bring everyone down!
Congrats on everything, Mery! You're an inspiration to us all!!
