This is incredibly sad!
Last night, former President George H.W. Bush was taken by ambulance to Houston Methodist Hospital after experiencing a shortness of breath.
According to spokesman Jim McGrath, George W. Bush's father:

All kidding aside, it's a bummer to hear from Tom Hanks that he has type-2 diabetes, which in most cases is pretty avoidable. What's strange is that he's always been in decent shape, and type-2 usually hits those who are not!
That's not the only strange thing, either — apparently he's been experiencing symptoms for TWENTY YEARS. Twenty years, and he has just recently been officially diagnosed!
The 57-year-old we all wish was a father figure in our lives (and star of the upcoming modern pirate movie Captain Phillips) admitted to having the common form of diabetes in an interview with David Letterman. He's not alone in Hollywood, either: Halle Berry, Patti Labelle, Drew Carey and Chaka Khan all have it too.
"I went to the doctors and they said, 'You know those high blood sugar numbers you've been living with since you were 36, well you've graduated, you've got Type 2 Diabetes young man.'"
The news surfaced after Letterman brought up Tom's weight loss, which happened recently as a way to control the symptoms!
Jokingly, Tom said his doctor has suggested he gets back down to his high school weight of 98 pounds!
"Well it's controllable and through diet. My doctor said, 'If you can weigh what you weighed in high school, you'll essentially be completely healthy and not have type 2 diabetes.' Well, I'm going to have type 2 diabetes then."
While Type-2 diabetes is nothing to mess around with, we're glad he has a sense of humor about it. And it's that sense of humor that makes us wish he was our happy-go-lucky uncle or something! Ha!
Keep it in check, Tom! We don't want to lose you earlier than we have to!
