Is breakfast really too much trouble for people to bother with these days, or are peeps just tired of cereal??
Also, how could you be tired of cereal?? LOLz!
Kellog Co, the world's largest maker of breakfast cereals, is about to let go of a BUNCH of people. We're talking' 7% of it's workforce, and will chop capacity by 2017. Things are not good for ol' Tony the Tiger, despite what he tells you!
The company just had to announce yet another quarterly decline in sales in its cereals business
So what's the problem? It can't ALL be stiff competition from General Mills and private-label cereal brands!
Apparently it's also in part due to the increased popularity of yogurt, frozen egg sandwiches, and other breakfast items. So the plan is to get rid of a lot of people, strengthen existing businesses in its core markets, and increase growth in developing markets.
If you do the math, 7% of the about 31,000 employees they had at the end of 2012, that's around 2,100+ jobs going out the window. The plan will also get rid of excess capacity and consolidating supply chain infrastructure.
We feel bad for the folks losing their jobs, for sure!
Maybe there's an opening over at General Mills??
