Paul McCartney is a man of many titles: singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer, knight, Beatle!
But we had NO idea sumo wrestling fanatic was on this list!!
That's right! According to Sir Paul's spokesperson, he first developed a love for the sport when he was on a world tour as a solo artist in the '90s:
"Bizarrely Macca really got into Sumo Wrestling when he first toured Japan in 1993. He took his crew to one of the matches when they were over there recently and was explaining to everyone the rules and the scoring and how it all worked."
Wow! That's pretty awesome!
Well Paul found himself in Fukuoka for the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament a couple of weeks ago, which his spokesperson described as the "Wimbledon of Sumo Wrestling."
But he wasn't there as a fan. He was also there to promote is appropriately titled new album New! His spokesman explains:
"Between rounds traditionally dressed Japanese people were carrying 'NEW' album cover artwork on bamboo billboards around the stadium!"
Well that's definitely a new one!
His new album dropped over a month ago, so it looks like he's just trying to boost sales a bit overseas!
Well played, Macca!!
