Remember when we told you that President Barack Obama was sending two openly gay delegates to the 2014 Sochi Olympics as a big ole middle finger to Russia's anti-gay laws?
Well make that three!
Former gold medal winning figure skater Brian Boitano just came out to become the third openly gay US delegate to head to the winter Olympics alongside Billie Jean King and Caitlin Cahow!
He released a statement saying:
"I am many things: a son, a brother, and uncle, a friend, an athlete, a cook, an author, and being gay is just one part of who I am."
While his announcement seems to confirm our theory that Obama is trying to send a message in a rainbow-colored envelope to Russia, Brian has made it clear that he wants to be be represented as an athlete:
"It is my desire to be defined by my achievements and my contributions. While I am proud to play a public role in representing the American Olympic Delegation as a former Olympic athlete, I have always reserved my private life for my family and friends and will continue to do so. First and foremost I am an American athlete and I am proud to live in a country that encourages diversity, openness and tolerance. As an athlete, I hope we can remain focused on the Olympic spirit which celebrates achievement in sport by peoples of all nations."
Amen brother! That's EXACTLY how it should be!!
Athletes heading to Sochi should be known for their athletic abilities and for being the best in the world at what they do, and that's IT!
We guess that answers the age old question "What would Brian Boitano do?" LOLz!
