"Bah humbug!" doesn't even BEGIN to do this story justice!!
Snarf's Sub Shop in Chicago had some HORRIBLE news for their employees this weekend when they announced they would be cleaning house due to poor business and fired their entire staff of 20 employees just two days before Christmas!
The struggling sandwich joint broke the news via email and wrote:
"Due to increased competition and losses, ownership has decided to consider remodeling and reconcepting the store at 600 West Chicago Ave. The store is closing, effective tomorrow, December 23, 2013 for an unknown period of time for this remodeling and reconcepting. All staff is terminated, effective Monday, December 23, 2013."
Wow! That's even worse than a text message break up!
While the timing couldn't be ANY worse, Snarf's director of marketing Jill Preston says the had been planning the move for some time and employees should have seen it coming:
"We really regret our employees were given last-minute notice, but they were aware of the loss of business during the past year."
Oh, well that makes it better. Except it totally doesn't at all!!
The move has sparked outrage from the Worker's Organizing Committee of Chicago who protested outside of the restaurant on Monday, demanding they re-hire their employees!
However, that doesn't seem likely as Snarf's will be closing down and remodeling as a burger joint, but Jill did say that the fired staff could apply for their jobs once the restaurant opens up again. You know, just to rub a little salt in the wound!
We're going to go out on a limb here and say NOBODY is going to want to work at a place that fired their entire staff right before the holidays!
