In a world that's increasingly worried about its figure, we'd expect Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl brand alcohol to continue blowing up!
With fewer calories than the full-powered alternatives, it sounds like a fab deal, right?? Well, according to new research for end-of-the-year trends, the company that owns Skinnygirl said sales were down 29 percent!
Skinnygirl Cocktails now has 20 products including vodka, wines, wines and pre-mixed margaritas. It also has less alcohol than its full-caloried competition!
For instance, Skinnygirl wines are only 10 percent alcohol by volume! The standard is usually 12 to 15 percent standard. Their vodkas are only 30 percent alcohol instead of 40 percent.
Our guess is that it's because the booze is trying to be something that it's not — to become a 'diet' alcohol, SOMETHING has to change! That's unlike another major low-cal brand TY KU, which is an all natural low calorie saki.
What goes into Skinnygirl's recipes is pretty much a mystery, with Skinnygirl brand director Megan Frank giving very few details and just that:
"…it’s achieved through careful selection of the blends; we harvest the grape a little bit earlier."
We wonder what's going to have to change in the next year for them to pick up!
