Michael Schumacher, who is widely known in the Formula One community, is now fighting for his life after a skiing accident in the French Alps.
Here's what the hospital says:
"[Schumacher] suffered a severe head injury with coma on arrival, which required neurosurgical intervention immediately. He remains in a critical situation."
Michael actually owns a chalet at the French resort of Meribel when the accident happened, and had to be airlifted to safety.
Here's what a spokesperson said:
"Michael fell on his head when he was on a private skiing trip in the French Alps. He was taken to hospital and is receiving professional medical attention. We ask for understanding that we cannot give out continuous information about his health. He was wearing a helmet and was not alone. No one else was involved in the fall."
So sad! We really hope he has the strength to pull through!
He and Ferrari won five consecutive world championships between 2000 and 2004. He's got a lot of F1 records under his belt, too.
