Super Bowl XLVIII Has An Interesting Pick For This Year's National Anthem! Find Out Who Was Chosen To Sing HERE!

| Filed under: Music MinuteZportzFootballNFLSuper BowlGIFs

Well this is certainly a change of direction!!

The biggest football game of the year is rapidly approaching as Super Bowl XLVIII is just a week and a half away, and it's finally been announced who will sing the National Anthem!

So, who was chosen?

Renowned opera singer Renée Fleming will be taking the field to sing!

The 4-time Grammy winner is DEFINITELY deserving of the pre-game honor, however, it's a pretty notable change considering the singers have been strictly pop stars over the past several years!

In fact, Renée will be the very first opera singer to sing at the Super Bowl!

The past six National Anthem performers have included Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Jordin Sparks.

As one of the most decorated soprano singers in the world, it's not too surprising that she would be picked for the singing duties, and it probably doesn't hurt that she grew up in Rochester, New York and the Super Bowl is being played at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey!

We definitely can't wait to see Renée kick things off the right way!

Interesting. I hope she sings it the way it was written and doesn't ruin it by 'making it her own'.

NFL has enough problems, they want to at least know the Nathional Anthem isn't gonna be screwed up.

It should be interesting and different, but well done, considering the pop singers they usually hire. She's a soprano whose repertoire encompasses Richard Strauss, Mozart, Handel, bel canto, lieder, French opera and chansons, jazz and indie rock.
