As if the studies and the science weren't enough — what other proof does the world need that smoking is bad other than MULTIPLE Marlboro Men dying from smoking related health issues??
At 72, Eric Lawson could've lived another full 20 years if it weren't for the fact that he was the Marlboro Man in cigarette ads during the late 1970s!
He died due to respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. From all that smoking!
Now, we're not saying Eric was by any means a bad person due to his choice to smoke. He was the opposite! We're just saddened that the choice he made as a young boy left his wife and family without him so early.
Oh, and Eric realized his mistake — but it was too late! He actually started appearing in anti-smoking ads that parodied the Marlboro Man, and even went on Entertainment Tonight to talk about how bad smoking was. As someone who started smoking when he was 14, he would know!
It's a shame he didn't stop in time to avoid COPD. He's survived by his six children, and the fifth Marlboro Man do die from a smoking related illness.
