Cigarettes can look sexy sometimes, but the long-term effects are disastrous!
CVS know that and have decided to lead the way in an epic move that hopefully all other pharmacies will follow.
They're going to phase out all tobacco products by October 1st, and even though, they're going to lose about $2 BILLION in revenue annually, they're doing it for an incredible reason!
"It was very important to us that, as we’re working with doctors and hospital systems and health plans, that they see us as an extension of their services. It’s virtually impossible to be in the tobacco business when you want to be a health care partner to the health care system."
That's so wonderful! With tobacco-related illnesses and the 480,000 deaths caused annually, we need companies to fight for this nation's health.
Speaking of this nation… its leader praised CVS' move! President Obama, who struggled with smoking for years, approved the move, saying:
"As one of the largest retailers and pharmacies in America, CVS Caremark sets a powerful example, and today's decision will help advance my Administration's efforts to reduce tobacco-related deaths, cancer, and heart disease, as well as bring down health care costs - ultimately saving lives and protecting untold numbers of families from pain and heartbreak for years to come."
That's incredible! Even the Prez gave them props, along with FLOTUS Michelle Obama, who tweeted out:
Thanks @CVS_Extra, now we can all breathe a little easier, and our families can live healthier. –mo

CVS is hoping to start a chain reaction that will make it much harder for smokers to find tobacco products as other companies join them, and, even though it'll be a financial hit to their 7,600 stores, it just makes sense.
Way to go for progress!
