Triumph Or Too Far? The Biggest Loser Winner Sparks Major Controversy At 105 Pounds! See What Jillian Michaels Has To Say!

rachel frederickson biggest loser too thin controversy

It's a HUGE deal for the contestants of The Biggest Loser to reach goals and get healthy. We love the message of the show, and we love watching the people realize they have it within them to change.

But what happens when people see the winner and they think they've gone TOO far? Lost TOO much weight??

That's happening right now, sadly: winner Rachel Frederickson, a 24-year-old voiceover artist, has been met with criticism for losing too much weight.

Some even said her body reveal was shocking!

Starting the show at 260 pounds, Rachel wanted to lose the weight just as much as she wanted that $250k prize. So it's no surprise she worked hard. She ended up dropping 155 pounds, and she now weighs 105.

Is that too much? Well, let's take into account that she lost almost 60% of her body weight in just months. 59.2%, exactly. Let's also say that for a 5'4" frame, that weight is actually considered LOWER than a healthy status.

But does she deserve all this negative attention for doing what a show calls for? For playing the game? We're not so sure!

People were lighting up Twitter with responses like:

@maseorama: "I know it's the biggest loser, but Rachel does NOT look healthy. She looked better @ the end of last episode"

@ky_ry23: "#BLFinale rachel went too far. horrible message being sent by her and the biggest loser show."

We're just glad that kind of weight shaming wasn't all she was getting — some even wished her well and said she as an inspiration!

Here's what Rachel said after winning, which has a lack of direct response to the haters:

"I'm at the maintenance point now so I need to find some balance and make sure I work out and I eat healthy and make good choices 90 percent of the time. I'm not sure (I'll maintain this weight), but I plan to try new exercises and just continue on this path and see where that takes me."

Now THAT is a healthy outlook!

Also making the rounds is the look on some of the trainers' faces when Rachel was revealed live — including Jillian Michaels, who even mouthed 'oh my god' at one point.

Jillian had this to say:

jillian anderson comment biggest loser winner shocking thin

We're sure she's fielding a LOT of questions right now!

We would NEVER want Rachel to feel bad for her incredible journey to learning new & healthy knowledge, and the skills to stay in shape.

What she has done has been unbelievable, and we really do hope those pounds lost to win the game are not the same as the pounds she lost to better her life!

Although, we can't deny that Bob and Jillian were quite shocked when they saw her - check out their reaction during the live show (below)!

It doesn't say how long it took to lose the weight. If she lost it too fast, which I am assuming she did as it was for a tv show, she could rebound really badly.

  2. 2

She was very driven on the show. She was amazing !!!! She will, in a few months, gain a little back and look healthier. I'm glad she won!! It pissed me off when the other contestants on the show were mad at her for winning all the challenges and prizes. They thought she should let someone else win. OMGGGGGGGGGG you jerks !! She could have thrown one for you so one of you guys could win and you would have VOTED HER OFF IN A SECOND with no appreciation. Give me a break. Go RACHEL!!!

  3. 3

Of course she's gone too far, why does this surprise anybody? After being morbidly obese she is now addicted to losing weight. she thinks she's looking great and clearly the surge in confidence will keep her on the weight loss path. she is in for a life long battle to maintain a healthy weight range, I'm sure the fear of returning to obesity will sadly cause her to become anorexic. She's bound to have warped views of her body, most women do.

"horrible message losing too much weight" - she did this under strict guidance and supervision, under some of the most prominent and knowledgable people in this entire industry. Criticism for this? Unreal - this is why american's are so obese - they think it's ok to look and be large. read a book people

Why do we not mind as much when a 5'11" model weighs 115 lbs.?

  6. 6

I've watched every season of BL and have never seen anyone lose so much weight at the finale. The show encourages major weight loss in a short period and that, along with a monetary incentive, seems to cause contestants to resort to extreme measures. I literally gasped when Rachel walked out and saw Jillian's reaction. I thought the two guys in the final 3 looked thin also, but Rachel looked skeletal. I really hope she gains some weight back and maintains good health.

The sad thing is the Dr stated at the Ranch when she was 150 she was at 19 percent body fat, and had 5 pounds to lose… it's at the end of this video.. She is sick!

Only a tiny percentage of people have IQ's high enough to become actual doctors. the average american only has an IQ of 98 (a large chunck of americans cant even score that). California (the land of hollywood) only has an average IQ of less than 95 and, not coincidently, one of the worst academic records in the usa. I think people should leave "health assessments' to those lucky few who have real IQs and who used their real IQ's to pursue real careers doing real important things like becoming real doctors. Leave the health assessment to actual doctors. Its scary how many 97 IQ people think they can just LOOK at someone's weight and go "she's unhealthy". If medicine was that easy, everybody would be doctors. She looks fine. Anything beats her before picture.

I think she looks good… not way over the top thin. Could she put on a few pounds to look healthier? Sure. Does she look like a walking skeleton? Not to me. Kudos to her for being able to transform herself. She was given the tools to do so while on the show and so far has been able to keep it off. Hopefully she can continue to maintain using healthy means.

Are any of you doctors? Have any of you personally treated Rachel? Then it's none of your business. Anorexia nervosa is a disease - diagnosed by a doctor (usually multiple, including a psychiatrist). There is more to "being anorexic" than looking slim. One of the qualifications for being diagnosed with anorexia nervosa is a warped view of one's body and an intense fear of gaining weight… None of you know her or her mental state, so how can you come to the decision that she has anorexia nervosa? Leave her alone. It's up to her and her medical professionals to determine the right weight for her body. Not anonymous trolls on celebrity gossip blogs.

Rachel is 5'4". Per weight/height chats, the range of weight for a 5'4" woman is 108# to 132#, depending on one's bone structure-small/medium/large. She is also small boned so the 105# weight isn't all that under idea size. Most BL contestants do gain some weight after the final show and most likely Rachel will too. I'd say 115 would be a very health and great look for her. Congrats Rachel, you have made Mn proud of your success.

she had such a beautiful face before… now it looks strange. what happened to her smile?
It's not always good losing so much weight, hope she didn't do any damage to her body.

  13. 13

    Re: Jenna – no doubt!

  14. 14

I think she looks great! She had to lose a little more than maybe she wanted so she could win. She could now add 5 or 10 pounds and still look great.

  15. 15

Re: Catalpa – Right!! You don't want to miss out on $250,000 if you had just lost 1 more pound or 2 or whatever. She was up against two men. She can gain a few pounds back now and live a good life.

This is the first time in many seasons I've been happy with who won (or even cared).

Eating disorder is a very serious issue… You can't keep going around calling everyone who has an opinion or showing concern "weight shaming"… Its great if people can lose weight in a healthy manner. But when something looks off we shouldn't be afraid to say something about it cause if it is something serious like an eating disorder, it should definitely be taken seriously and spoken about…

  21. Jenn says – reply to this

    21

If she's losing the weight in an unhealthy manner just for a tv show than yes, it does deserve negative attention and is setting a horribly bad example for young women/men who struggles with eating disorders every day..

Re: Becca – You're replying to the trolls, doesn't make you any better. Just like you've said no knows if she's really anorexia, but you don't know if she really is either. if you want us to shut up than maybe you should do the same and I'm sure she's not reading gossip site trolls, unlike you, cause that would be pathetic, wouldn't it??

She used to be athletic before she became heavy, so she really worked the weight off. The money will come in handy; but will say that her too thin face and arms will look more attractive and normal with around 10 to 20 more pounds. Being athletic, she probably has a ridiculously low body fat ratio right now, and that's not particularly healthy…especially if she got sick.

Re: Jenna – We do actually it's just only certain publications talk about it, but certain countries like Spain I believe or it was Australia I can't remember had to ban models under a certain BMI due to deaths. You can go read the stories they are there just not on this level.

  25. heyyyyo says – reply to this

    25

I'd say she'd be good with another 5-10lbs on. When you look at other pictures of her, hers arms and legs look very skinny and quite frail. Just a little bit more weight would give her a healthier and more balance look.

  26. Baffled says – reply to this

    26

What I don't get is why is it ok for every woman in Hollywood to look like this with runway models even thinner but it is not ok for her? If a woman in Hollywood at this height is a healthy 125-135 lbs they will talk about how fat she is, but because this girl became the Hollywood popular size 0 it is not ok? These are the mixed messages our society sends to people, it is only ok for certain people to be thin but not for others. Fat shaming and thin shaming is ridiculous, but with that said healthy living is truly the way to go. Getting the proper exercise and nutrients your body needs to perform at its very best. Rather than focusing on weight it is overall nutrition that should be the key factor.

  27. 27

She looks a thousand times better. The majority of Americans (80%) are overweight. It makes sense that out of shape, insecure people will attack someone in a minority (fit/skinny)

  28. Brian says – reply to this

    28

Re: kate – On the show on the last weigh in she was told she only had 5% body fat…and that very few athletes have that little…she should have never lost any more weight.

  29. 29

This is why no one likes Americans. Someone does something to be healthy, and suddenly she is sick. Meanwhile the whole time leading up to this, you were probably laughing at her calling her a fat pig, while you stuff your face with Doritos and Ho-Hos. I don't watch the show based on principle, as even the title suggests the people on the show are to be mocked or belittled. You all make me sick

She dropped 45 pounds after leaving the ranch where she was constantly supervised. Once she was at home, she was on her own with no monitoring and that's when the dramatic weight loss occurred.

many of the women who say she looked better before, are heterosexual women.
People with my sexuality think she looks better now.
