If you're heading to the 2014 Sochi Olympics and you can't live without Chobani yogurt, then we have some pretty disappointing news for you!
A huge shipment of of the greek yogurt is currently being held at Newark International Airport and it's all because Russia won't allow it in their country!
Chobani is an official U.S. sponsor for the upcoming winter games, however, the Russian government says they need specific customs certifications before they send their products overseas!
New York State Senator Charles Schumer has jumped through plenty of hoops to try and get the yogurt into Russia, and has already provided a USDA certificate saying their products are safe and even confirmed that the snacks would ONLY be eaten by U.S. athletes!
Unfortunately, none of this seems to be good enough and without any further cooperation Charles says certification is "unattainable!"
The New York senator even penned a letter to Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak on the "urgent" matter, saying:
"I understand the need for high food safety standards for dairy products. However, the U.S. government has confirmed that sanitary standards have been met to ensure that this yogurt will be safe for consumption by American Citizens attending and participating in the 2014 Winter Olympics. As the world looks forward to a successful 2014 Winter Olympics, I urge your country’s immediate approval of the entry of this shipment of Chobani Greek yogurt."
Wow! Who knew yogurt could cause so much drama??
It seems a bit silly that with all of the real issues going on with the Sochi games that this is even causing a stir!!
Just let them eat their yogurt already!!!
