Hmm… well this is actually a bit of a surprise.
The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic mascots have arrived and they're surprisingly normal.
Every year, since 1972, the Olympic host country traditionally chooses their own mascot. The Olympic Organizing Committee said:
"[The mascot] can be a person, an animal or a fictitious being, which reflects the cultural characteristics of the host country and symbolizes the values of the modern Olympic Movement."
So Russia decided to let the people choose!
After over 24,000 sketches were submitted and voted on in a pole, the people have spoken… the mascots are now:
A polar bear, a hare and a leopard!
With most of the previous mascots we remember being pretty goofy or downright scary, this is super normal!
We guess Russians love cute animals just as much as anyone else.
Way to go, comrades! Check out some more pics (below) of the cute mascots!
