Oklahoma State Basketball Player Marcus Smart Suspended After Shoving Fan! Claims He Was Called The N-Word! Watch The Altercation HERE!
This is just overall a VERY ugly incident!
Oklahoma State shooting guard Marcus Smart has been suspended for three games after he shoved a fan in the final seconds of a game against Texas Tech.
NBC broadcaster Doug Gottlieb took to Twitter to address the matter and posted a screen-grab of a message a friend of his received from Jeff after the incident. When asked what he did to get under Marcus' skin, he responded:
"Yeah I kinda let my mouth say something I shouldn't have. I feel bad."
Jeff himself released an apology to both Marcus and the schools and volunteered to not attend anymore Texas Tech basketball games for the rest of the season:
"I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere apologies to Marcus Smart, Oklahoma State, Tubby Smith and the Texas Tech Men's Basketball program. My actions last night were inappropriate and do not reflect myself or Texas Tech - a university I love dearly. I regret calling Mr. Smart a 'piece of crap' but I want to make it known that I did not use a racial slur of any kind."
Marcus also released an apology and says he takes full responsibility for the ugly incident in Lubbock:
"This is not how I conduct myself. This is not how the program is run. This is not how I was raised. I let my emotions get the best of me. It's something I'll have to learn from, a lesson I'll have to learn from. The consequences that are coming with it - I'm taking full responsibility. No fingers pointing - this is all upon me."
Other basketball players came forward and said they had also had issues with Jeff in the past, however, most seemed to agree that Marcus was still out of line and let his temper get the best of him.
Of course, athletes of any sports should NEVER put their hands on a fan no matter what, but at the end of the day, this is also an adult man heckling a 19-year-old college student.
We think it's pretty safe to say neither of these guys are walking away from the situation as winners.
Ch-ch-check out the incident that sparked the controversy (above)!
