Sochi Sparks Gay Rights Protesters To Be Detained As Games Begin!

olympics sochi russia gay rights activists detained

NOT cool, Russia!

It looks like the Sochi Olympics opening ceremonies WERE just for show — specifically in the tolerance department!

We're getting reports of Russian police detaining gay rights activists for trying to protest on Moscow's famous Red Square. This was right before Putin opened the Olympic games, trying to prove he was tolerant with moves like having t.A.T.u. perform!

Apparently 10 protesters were detained in Moscow and four in St Petersburg — and allegedly two of those people were actually women from Sweden!

Their offense? Supporting their fellow humans and unrolling a banner that said:

"Discrimination is incompatible with the Olympic Movement."

Which is 100% true, it IS incompatible.

The Russian government maintains that the law is needed to protect young people. Whatever the hell that means!

It's AWFUL and WRONG. These protestors are heroes to try regardless of the looming punishments!

Political protests are also incompatible with the Olympic movement.

Fourteen whole people protested. Wow! And gays should be prevented from spreading propaganda to kids. They knew the law, now they'll have to face the consequences.

Put your clothes back on.. such an embarrassment. This is about countries competing against each other.. not sexual preferences.

It's NOT cool to go protest about your own cause when Sochi is about the Olympians! Russia my view gay rights differently, but most countries do not. Many of the Olympians are gay! They are there to compete in their sports, not change Russia's beliefs. Plus, the protesters are naked…wth does that prove besides your ignorance. I hope they are not from America. Pick a time and a place that is appropriate! I am in full support of equal rights!!

Somebody should make a gay parody of Miley's We Can't Stop … using the lyrics "We can be fruits if we want to ."

Perez do you pay attention to the news when it actually happens. The open ceremonies where 4 days ago. Your post is very old news by now.

Protest is essential in democracy! A govt that bans protest is a fascist one and must be condemned.

The U.N. should step in and penalize and sanction Russia because of their excessive abuse of human rights and all other countries that ban homosexuality or homosexual propaganda.

News like this should be published and broadcasted all over the world so everyone may realize how incredibly insane, despicable and condemnable the Russian govt is.

More power to these protestors! I hope they don't give up and stage way bigger and more shocking protests next time! Interrupting an Olympic event perhaps? That would be a great one.

Meh it must be bad for the athletes, here they are training 24/7 365 days a year for their one big moment and everyone is talking about an irrelevant, whiny minority. I'd be pissed. This is just making me hate the LGBT community even more.

Re: NookiesWA – irrelevant? then i suggest you stop using the internet and any modern computer because Alan Turing, the Father of Modern Computing, is a homosexual.
