Congress is tired of having to hide their pot in cookie jars and stuff, so they're finally pushing for President Obama to reclassify the drug that should've have been classified so poorly to begin with!
And when we say Congress, we totally don't mean all of them — but 18 of them at least!
Oh, and they're all Democrats. Whatevs! They're asking the President to put his money where his mouth is after his latest mention of the sticky icky and how it's no worse than alcohol!
Here's what the letter said, which was spearheaded by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore — and it was probably covered in Cheeto dust:
“You said that you don’t believe marijuana is any more dangerous than alcohol: a fully legalized substance, and believe it to be less dangerous ‘in terms of its impact on the individual consumer.’ This is true. Marijuana, however, remains listed in the federal Controlled Substances Act at Schedule I, the strictest classification, along with heroin and LSD. This is a higher listing than cocaine and methamphetamine, Schedule II substances that you gave as examples of harder drugs. This makes no sense.”
Honestly, it really doesn't make sense!
We can't even believe the impact a reclassification would have on lives and resources, not to mention the time our police forces put into cracking down on pot.
Nobody is sure whether or not the Justice Department will intervene yet, but as of now nothing has changed regardless of what Obama said.
Which is insane — especially give how the nation's attitude about the drug has changes so significantly! Just last month a poll showed that an astounding 51% of Americans want it legalized.
We totally agree it's time to change, whether or not you actually want to smoke it!
