paralyzed oregon man proposes to girlfriend

Before you start reading this, we're gonna give you a moment to grab some tissues because there will most definitely be tears!!

Four years ago, Larry Ragsdale was a star high school athlete in Oregon and his cheerleading girlfriend Kelcie Yeoman was there to support him at every single one of his events!

He knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and bought an engagement ring to propose to her during a family vacation at Disneyland. However, his plans were tragically put on pause when he was struck by a drunk driver in Monroe and slipped into a coma.

Despite a grim prognosis from doctors, Larry woke up after a couple of months but was left partially paralyzed, and he had a long road of physical rehabilitation ahead of him. Just like in high school, Kelcie was right by his side every step of the way.

Larry didn't forget about his plans to propose to his high school sweetheart, and after three years of recovery he was finally able to pop the question!! Kelcie's sister McKenzie then put together a campaign to tell their amazing story and raise money to send them to Disneyland for the dream wedding they deserve, and they reached exceeded their goal of $20,000 in just 11 days!!

If you were able to get through that storybook ending with dry eyes, then you might wanna go see a doctor, because we're pretty sure you're a robot!

He is not a disabled man. He is a MAN that is disabled its called people first language. It recognizes the person first not the disability and is a sign of respect :) just FYI

Yes I feel bad for the dude, but if he really loved her, he would have let her live a normal life instead of now having to take care of a handicap person for the rest of her life. They could have remained best friends. Taking care of a paralyzed person is not easy. It's full time job and he just signed her up for it. I know I would not ask my girlfriend of 9 years to be my nurse forever if this happened to me. I'd want her to enjoy her life fully because she has the opportunity and I'd want her to be my family but in a different type of way. I wish them luck however.

Re: MGFunk – Has it occurred to you that maybe she WANTS to be with him regardless of his handicap?

Re: CandyCane – Be realistic-She can still love him and be in his life. But she is a young woman who deserves to live a happy normal life. You think she is going to outright tell him "no I don't want to marry you because I want to live a normal life, but I do still support you and will always be there for you". Of course not, because of people like you who can't comprehend what he just signed her up for, and who would judge her otherwise. She deserves a normal life with a man that can be her equal partner, not a man that she'll need to nurse for the rest of her life. In my opinion, he should have considered that, no matter how heartbreaking it would have been for him. If she were my friend or sister, I would ask her to REALLY consider it before it's too late. I still wish them luck-

Re: MGFunk – How do you know I can't comprehend what she just signed up for? Stop making such broad assumptions. Love should be unconditional and you don't just cut and run when bad things happen. Maybe her happy and normal life include being married to him and being his caretaker. By the way, I know exactly what she is signing up for.

First off this is my brother and he is not paralyzed. He has a very hard and long road to fully recover but please get your facts straight before saying something like that.

    Re: MGFunk
This woman is my soon be sister in law. She adores my brother, the way he was before the accident and even after. We have told her that she doesn't have to feel forced into this and she has told us countless times how much she loves Larry and plans on spending the rest of her life with him. She loves him and wants to help him with his recovery. She got a job where he was living to help with his recovery. She wants a life with him, not to live a so called "normal" life. This is her life and my brother was fulfilling his wish to propose to his love of his life. Don't try to make this into something its not.

I know this family personally. Larry's big sister Jessica is a very dear friend of mine. And, this isn't the only miracle that has blessed Larry and Kelcie!!! Thank you for continuing Larry's story. He still has a long road ahead of him, but he's such a STRONG person! And, please! Do not drink and drive! Larry wouldn't be where he is now if that drunk driver hadn't gotten into that car that night!
    Love you LarryBug!
