After an extremely long wait, Oscar Pistorius' trial has FINALLY begun, and there's already a lot we have to wrap our brains around!
The former Olympian kicked things off by pleading not guilty to the charges of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who he allegedly shot at four times through a bathroom door. He also plead not guilty to several over firearm charges.
Oscar has previously claimed that he wasn't aware that Reeva was behind the door and he believed it was an intruder. However, the testimony from the trial's first witness tells a completely different story.
Michelle Burger, who lives in a neighboring housing complex next to Oscar's, spoke out about the night in question and it definitely sounds like there was some sort of struggle between the two. She says:
"I was still sitting in the bed and I heard her screams. She screamed terribly and she yelled for help. Then I also heard a man screaming for help. Three times he yelled for help."
Believing there was some sort of break-in, Michelle's husband called local security to check in on the situation, but she says the screams continued to get worse and "more intense." She went on to say:
"Just after her screams, I heard four shots. Four gun-shots. Bang … bang, bang, bang. It was very traumatic for me. You could hear that it was bloodcurdling screams."
Michelle says the outbursts began to fade out shortly after the shots were fired.
If her testimony turns out to be true, it would ruin Oscar's claims that he shot in self dense and it was a spur of the moment decision, because it definitely sounds like there was some sort of struggle before shots were fired.
The hearing is set to resume tomorrow morning at 7:30 GMT.
