It looks like this city can breathe a little bit easier now!
The city of Los Angeles has jumped on the e-cigarette ban bandwagon and has officially restricted their use in public areas!
This means they wont be allowed in places like restaurants, parks, and any other place regular cigarettes aren't allowed. However, e-cig users will still be able to keep on puffing in vapor lounges and at theatrical performances.
Mayor Eric Garcetti is expected to sign this into law in the next few days, and the legislation has become increasingly popular and popping up in other cities like New York, Chicago, and Boston, to name a few!
City Council voted 12-0 to pass the motion, and the hearings were VERY emotional! LA Council President Herb Wesson, who has been smoking for nearly 40 years, spoke out about the issue and said he would do anything in his power to prevent youngsters from making the same mistake he did:
"I'm telling you, the high percentage of kids that smoke, smoke because it's cool. And when you're 15 you want to be cool. I will not support anything — anything — that might attract one new smoker."
The amount of e-cigarette users has skyrocketed in the past year, and it seems like you can't go anywhere without seeing someone puffing on one!
Hopefully this law can help put a dent in those growing numbers and cut down on the amount of people using these things! Talk about a breath of fresh air!
