It's finally here, people! After waiting for what felt like forever, the new season of DWTS is finally upon us!!
For the past few months we've been hearing all of the adjustments the show has been making, like bringing in Erin Andrews and getting rid of their live band! But the real question was, which stars were gonna bring their A-game and compete for the Mirror Ball Trophy??
NeNe Leakes was the first contestant to get things started, and she was definitely in it to win it as she didn't even try to hide her competitive spirit during rehearsals! The Real Housewife backed it all up too, as she and her partner Tony Dovolani pulled off an impressive Cha Cha that earned them a 21!
Candace Cameron Bure immediately put her foot down and made it clear as a mother of three she was NOT going to be Mark Ballas' sexy little dancer! However, that didn't stop the Full House actress from blowing away the judges with an amazing contemporary routine which earned her a 25, which was the second highest score of the night!! (BTW, you can catch Candace's EXCLUSIVE interviews with us HERE!)
Candace wasn't the only actress to give us a blast from the past as Danica McKellar also took the stage with Val Chmerkovskiy! The Wonder Years starlet admitted she was hoping the show would help her move past her "little girl" image, and we think she did just that with a foxtrot which scored a 24! It probably didn't hurt that she got some brownie points by giving judge Bruno Tonioli a smooch at the end of her routine!
Fresh off a bronze medal at the 2014 Sochi Paralympics, Amy Purdy didn't have as much time to train as some of the other competitors. However, that didn't stop her and reigning champ Derek Hough from pulling off an amazing Cha Cha that earned them a 24! In fact, you probably wouldn't have even known she was a double amputee with moves like that!
Amy was joined by a couple of other Olympians as gold medal winning ice skater Meryl Davis was there to prove she had some moves off the ice as well! After a little flirting with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, she proved to be just as graceful without her skates! The duo earned at 24 for their Cha Cha, and we have to imagine it will only get better each week!
Meryl's partner Charlie White also took the dance floor, and it looks like he's going to be a force to be reckoned with this season! The gold medalist teamed up with Sharna Burgess for a contemporary dance and the two ended up being the highest scoring team of the night with an astounding 27!!
As the youngest contestant in the competition, Cody Simpson definitely looked like he was fighting some nerves on the dance floor! However, his partner Witney Carson was able to whip him into shape and they notched a respectable 22 for their Cha Cha! Perhaps Cody was a little distracted by the cameras that are ALWAYS WATCHING him!!
But, our absolute HIGHlight of the night was Billy Dee Williams' Star Wars-themed Cha Cha with his partner Emma Slater that had freakin' EWOKS CHEERING IN THE AUDIENCE. We kid you not!!! Even though the judges weren't a fan, we were!!! You gotta see Lando Calrissian in action (below)!
We still have a LONG road ahead of us until one of the competitors takes home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy, but tonight was definitely a great sneak peek of what's to come this season! Ch-ch-check out some the performances (below)!!!
