This is the type of progress we like to see in the world of sports!
Retired defensive back Wade Davis came out of the closet nearly 9 years after his NFL career ended, and over the past several months he's been working tirelessly to put an end to homophobia in football!
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is arguably the most high profile figure to speak out about the presentations and says his team would welcome an openly gay player with open arms! Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank also spoke highly of Wade's speech and said it's up to them to change the culture in the locker room:
"I think the most important thing is that it is a matter of respect. How we live is more important that what we say about it. The guidance that we're getting from the league is outstanding, and the attention that it is getting is outstanding. But is up to us to make sure it becomes a living part of our culture, with more sensitivity, more awareness of the impact of what we're saying."
Respect has been a huge focal point in the NFL annual meetings, ESPECIALLY following the bullying scandal that surrounded the Miami Dolphins and Richie Incognito just last season!
Michael Sam has the potential to become the first openly gay player to play in the league if he gets drafted in May, and it's great to see the NFL taking action to ensure he enters a welcoming environment!
Way to go, guys! This is amazing!
