SELF Magazine Makes Fun Of A Marathon Runner With Brain Cancer! Why?? Find Out The UNACCEPTABLE Reason HERE!

self magazine makes fun of marathon runner with brain cancer

This is just wrong on so many levels we barely know where to begin!

After running in the LA Marathon, Monika Allen was surprised to get a call from SELF magazine asking if they could use a photo of her and a friend wearing a tutu during the race!

However, she had no idea when the issue was released that they would pretty much be making fun of her outfit by featuring her in a column called "The BS Meter!" They wrote:

"A racing tutu epidemic has struck NYC's Central Park, and it's all because people think these froufrou skirts make you run faster."

This is already mean enough on its own, but we're guessing (or at least hoping) the magazine had no idea Monika was running in the marathon while receiving chemotherapy for brain cancer (although her friend's number badge clearly says DIE TUMOR DIE on it)!!

Also, the reason they were wearing such wacky outfits was to promote her company Glam Runners, which has raised nearly $5,600 selling tutus and has donated it ALL to Girls on the Run, an organization that strives to keep young women healthy and active!

Obviously Monika was not happy with the spread and says she probably wouldn't have allowed them to use the picture if she knew how it was going to be used! We can't say we blame her!

Maybe SELF magazine should have thought that through before publishing!

Stay strong, Monika! You're doing AMAZING things in this world!

Who cares what someone is wearing when they go out and stay healthy??

OK, stop blowing shit out of proportion. You're taking Liberalism to extremes that it doesn't need to go. You're like the Tea Party of the left. Both of which are toxic and dangerous.

I'm sorry, but a health and fitness magazine for women, should NEVER make fun of ANYTHING that has to do with women being active, healthy, and supportive.
Shame on them, who cares if women wear tutus for marathons…because it's fucking hurting anyone?
Let alone that they didn't disclose what the picture would be used for.
Fuck them. Women shouldn't be mocking other women.

So … the fact that she has cancer means she should be immune from being mocked for looking silly? What do those things have to do with each other? Once again logic is not your forte Perez.

Here in Boston we have something called the "Santa speedo run" runners wear red speedo's, red bikinis many outrageous outfits."Over the past 13 years, the SSRun has raised over $1.4 million for various local children’s charities. As of 2012, the SSRun became aligned to the individual cause of raising money for Play Ball Foundation, which provides Boston middle school students with a chance to play, and build friendships and character through the lessons of sports - teamwork, communication and discipline." they may look a little crazy BUT they are raising money………compared to some of the runners I have seen in the speedo run these ladies look adorable and self magazine should be ashamed………anyone who steps up and steps out of the box to raise money and do it while being active should be commended not ridiculed! It takes a lot of balls to be different so a big FU to self magazine…….

I'm pretty sure that column is specifically and purposefully making stuff up, "BS" like the card game to see if you can guess if they're lying. It's not supposed to be taken as fact. And they make that clear.

Re: Andie – And why not? She has cancer, she may die soon.
Do you not believe your life priorities change when you face a possible imminent death!
If she was aware the only way to attract people's attention on her organization was to wear this ridiculous getup. Where she's wrong?
