A summertime fruit favorite is getting high marks for health in a new research study on hypertension and heart attacks!
We’re talking about watermelon, of course!
Hmm. Beyoncé must have seen this study early because gurl’s been drinking watermelon so much, she’s Drunk In Love with it!
In all seriousness though, researchers recently found that eating watermelon reduces high blood pressure in overweight people and could reduce the risk of a heart attack big time!
The study, published in this month's American Journal of Hypertension, found that chowing down on watermelon is good for your heart health and might even reduce the risk of heart problems in cold conditions, when the heart has to work the hardest!
Scientists tested 13 overweight men and women by feeding half of them watermelon extracts and then dipped their hands in cold water, simulating a chilly day.
Guess what: the watermelon eaters had LOWER blood pressure than those who hadn’t!
So make sure you put a big piece of the seeded fruit on your plate during all of your picnics this summer! It just might save your life down the road!
