Oscar Pistorius has not been having an easy time in court lately, and things took an even more emotional turn in Pretoria Monday morning.
The former Olympian took the stand in his own defense earlier today, and he took it as an opportunity to apologize to the family of Reeva Steenkamp, who he shot and killed just last year.
A very emotional Oscar said:
"I wake up every morning and you're the first people I think of, the first people I pray for. I can't imagine the pain and the sorrow and the emptiness that I've caused you and your family. I was simply trying to protect Reeva. I can promise that when she went to bed that night, she felt loved. I've tried to put my words on paper many, many times to write to you. But no words will ever suffice."
Oscar went on to admit that he began taking prescription anti-depressants since the shooting to help him sleep.
The former sprinter is still looking to prove that he mistook Reeva for an intruder and shot her in self defense. However, some evidence seems to suggest the two had been arguing prior to the shooting.
The trial continues.
