Michael Phelps has ended his retirement and is returning to swimming later this month at a meet in Mesa, Arizona!
Do you realize what this means, people?!?
He’s doing it! He’s preparing for the Olympics in Rio!
K, that much hasn’t been confirmed yet. The next Summer Games are still 2 years away but this is HUGE news!
Mikey hasn’t been in the pool competitively since the London Games in 2012, where he added six medals to his already heavy neck. The 29-year-old is the the winningest and most decorated athlete in Olympic history!
And he might not be done yet!
Bob Bowman, Phelp’s longtime coach, spilled today that Michael is entered in three events — the 50 and 100-meter freestyles and the 100 butterfly.
Bowman commented about Michael’s return to the sport, saying:
"He's gotten back into good shape since September. He can give a good effort and certainly not be embarrassed. He's in enough shape to swim competitively.”
But is he ready for the Olympics?
Only time (and time trials) will tell.
We’ll be watching, Mr. Phelps!
