If you're someone who enjoys a nice refreshing beverage on your flight, then you might want to pay attention to this!
Production of limes has been at an all-time low due to flooding in Mexico and droughts in California, meaning prices have gone WAY up! In fact, the cost is so high that most flights have chosen to completely eliminate them from their drink menu and it doesn't look like they'll be coming back anytime soon!
Last week, the cost of limes was about 56 cents apiece, which is around 19 cents higher than it was the week before. This may not sound like a whole lot, but considering companies like Alaska Airlines go through about 900 limes per day, it definitely adds up!
Not all airlines have eliminated the fruit yet, as Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have NOT made changes to their menus, and JetBlue never even offered fruit with their drinks in the first place!
Overall it doesn't seem like it's time to hit the panic button just yet, but it's definitely a minor inconvenience to anyone who enjoys a gin & tonic or lime and Coke while flying Alaska Airlines!
