The London Marathon ended on a very sad note during the weekend as a 42-year-old runner collapsed at the finish line and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Approximately 36,000 people participated in the 34th annual event, and the tragedy marks the second death in 3 years as 30-year-old Claire Squires previously died due to cardiac arrest.
The runner's identity and cause of death are both currently unknown.
Similarly, the Rock 'n' Roll Half and Full Marathons in Raleigh, North Carolina also ended in tragedy as two runners collapsed and died during the race.
One runner died in the middle of the race while the other collapsed just before the finish line. Their identities and causes of death are also currently unknown.
Nearly 12,000 people participated by the event and it was not interrupted by the two deaths.
It's definitely sad to hear about these tragedies taking place during an event that's meant to promote good health, and we send all of our love and positive thoughts to the families of those who passed away this weekend.
