We're still in total shock that Michael Phelps has unretired!!
He wasn't just getting back into the pool to do some races and feel like a real swimmer again. He's legit getting ready for the 2016 Olympics in Rio!! That's amazing!!!
Phelps just competed in his first race since London, swimming at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa.
He made some technical mistakes but was still the fifth-fastest in the world for 2014, finishing in 52.13 seconds for the 100-meter butterfly.
Surprisingly, Ryan Lochte actually beat Phelps! Lochte swam the second-fastest time at 51.93!
Phelps, just happy to be back in the water, tweeted:
All he wanted was to swim close to 52 seconds flat, which is basically what he did.
Phelps wasn't the only happy U.S. swimmer at the meet… Lochte was pumped to have his buddy back, saying:
"I'm glad he's back. His leaving kind of broke my heart a little, because I love being on those blocks and racing him. Now that he's back, I've got a big old smile."
We bet these two are gonna take Rio by storm!
Wonder if Phelps will be able to catch up to Lochte by then…
Our guess is hell yes!
