We think we’re going to be sick… and we haven’t even had any Powerade today!
The Coca-Cola owned sports drink is reportedly removing a controversial ingredient from some of its products: A little guy named brominated vegetable oil.
But Coke does!
They’ve been using the substance as a stabilizer for flavoring oils in fruit-flavored drinks and to avoid certain ingredients from separating.
Yeah, but what about the effects it has on the people who drink it?!
A petition from a 15-year-old girl last year was successful in getting brominated vegetable oil removed from all Gatorade flavors and we suspect the pressure is being put on Powerade to phase out the ingredient from all of their products as well.
But for now, only Fruit Punch and Strawberry Lemonade flavors in SOME metro areas are BVO free!
Bottles being sold in Detroit, Omaha, New York and Washington, D.C. no longer list the ingredient as of this week.
What is the friggin’ hold up?! Just take the flame retardant out ALL Powerade already!
These drinks are designed to be enjoyed by healthy, active people! You really think putting harmful chemicals in them is going to help your sales??
Take our advice, Perezcious readers. If you need to sip on a sports drink, go for a Gatorade. If your insides happen to be on fire though, we’d suggest chugging a Powerade and seeing what happens.
