Michael Sam Becomes The First Openly Gay Player Drafted By An NFL Team! Watch The Historic Moment Filled With Tears & A Kiss From His BF On Live TV!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayZportzInspirationFootballNFLGIFsLGBT

michael sam drafted

History was made yesterday…

Star college football player Michael Sam, who came out as gay in February of this year, was drafted by the St. Louis Rams.

Which makes him the first openly gay player to EVER be drafted by an NFL team!

This is HUGE!!!

The moment was captured on camera, with Michael breaking down in tears as he received the phone call telling him the news.

His boyfriend was by his side throughout the entire draft. And when Sam was finally picked, the two kissed and embraced on LIVE television.

ZOMG. Our faces are soaked. Just soaked.

Being picked by the Rams is a bit of a homecoming for Michael. He played ball for the Missouri Tigers in college and was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year his senior year.

He’ll be awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year’s ESPYs as well.

What a year Mr. Sam is having! And what a year EQUALITY is having!

Watch the video (below) to see the emotional moment Michael was drafted!

Congratulations, Mike! You make us SO proud!

249th pick. rams must have drawn the short straw. I'm sure someone in the NFL would have to draft him or be labeled homophobic but its quite clear no one wanted him for exactly the reasons this video shows. you want people to come to your games not throw up.

I don't watch a second of football… unless its the superbowl half time show (lol) but I love this. Love that its a gay couple openly showing affection (very publicly, I might add) and also that it is an interracial couple! I'm a straight white woman married to a straight white man but love is love. There is such beauty in two consenting adults who love each other and being able to do so freely.

I can't imagine the Rams are ever going to put him on the field. NFL fans are not polite, homo loving people. Its going to be ugly if they put him on the field during a game. the league might have to hire a queer for looks but the fans will not be kind at all. They will let their unhappiness be known and heard.

Its goning to be like moochie Obama at nascar. not pretty

"Openly gay player" is the key phrase.

Why aren't' people in an uproar over animal abuse, murder, wife abuse and all the other thugs in the NFL? This is ridiculous! Let the guy play. If he doesn't perform, then get rid of him. However, to abuse him for this is neanderthal thinking.

Let's keep this in perspective. He was taken late in the final round of the draft. Odds are he won't make the team and if he does, his teammates will despise him. Queers will never be accepted in the NFL.

NFL fans may be rowdy but not all are as closed minded and rude as you two are. You can't judge a population by the opinion of a few.

Why is coming out such a big deal? Who cares? Just play the sport and shut up about your personal life

Now if he gets cut, the LGBT community will have a fit! Don't care if your gay, but no body wanted to see all that kissing! Good luck to him though.

    Re: god. help me
I assume you are gay, because of your reaction to leroy brown's post………..if I am not correct, I apologize.
what I don't understand tho, is you want to have the right to have an opinion and you want equal rights, but here somebody can't voice their opinons, without having insults hurled at them! how about tolerance? how about compassion and understanding for ppl who don't share your opinion?! you must be a really hurt and bitter individual, for reacting so negatively……….food for thought!

Amazing moment, but it sucks whats going to come with it. Hope society becomes more accepting.

Well congrats to him and wish him well.
Did not watch the video because PDAs no matter the sex make me uncomfortable - was brought up during the 50's and 60's into a middle class conservative family.

Humans/ people are so e the most self centered and hateful people. You don't have to like Michael , but respect him. I bet many of you guys who are dissing this dude, frequently hide behind a screen name, because your too weak stand up for anything you want.

Re: Xavier Marshall – Amen to that. It's sad people can't just accept others for who they are. We live in a judgmental world. Evidence is it's ok for Miley cyrus to encourage people to spike drinks while talking about date rape and a lot of people find that cool! But for a player to openly assume his sexuality is considered inhuman. World is upside down i say!

I'm a straight female and I think this is beautiful and amazing. and it shouldnt matter if this dude is gay or straight. I agree that "who cares if he is gay? is he good at football?" but unfortunately, "being gay" in sports is something thats not widely accepted and i hope people get over it so the next time a gay athlete gets drafted it wont make breaking news. it will just be as normal as any one being drafted.
