We all know that diet soda is a great alternative to normal soda, and it can even help you lose weight.
We also know that diet soda can derail your diet and lead to obesity among other problems.
So basically, we're all super confused and don't know how to feel about diet soda.
Thankfully someone did a study. Two groups of men and women ate the same diet and did the same exercise regimen.
The only difference? One group drank water, the other drank diet soda. After 12 weeks, the people drinking water lost an average of about 9 pounds. The diet soda drinkers? They were down about 13 pounds!
The study's co-author, Dr. Jim Hill, said:
"It makes sense that it would have been harder for the water group to adhere to the overall diet than the (artificially-sweetened beverage) group."
He's saying that because one group wasn't allowed to indulge their sweet tooth, they were more likely to cheat on the diet.
So what does this all mean??
Diet soda isn't the worst thing, but the real lesson here is moderation and not letting yourself get too hungry.
