melissa mccarthy offended weight criticism comments magazine interview

Melissa McCarthy may have cried about her looks when she was young, but she realized a long time ago that she doesn't need to change for anyone!

And that includes Hollywood!

The Tammy star opened up to People about her journey into the spotlight. And she revealed that the desire for starring roles never made her question her body. Even if others were! She said:

"I've never felt like I needed to change. I've always thought, 'If you want somebody different, pick somebody else.' But sure, criticism can sometimes still get to me. Some things are so malicious, they knock the wind out of you."

Melissa is referring to a recent article that referred to her as "America's plus-size sweetheart," a backhanded moniker that she feels is unnecessarily rude! She said:

"It's like I'm managing to achieve all this success in spite of my affliction… Would you ever put that in the headline for a male star?"

While it's definitely true men and women are held to a different standard in Hollywood, we hope we get to a point soon where NO ONE is made to feel bad about their bodies.

"we hope we get to a point soon where NO ONE is made to feel bad about their bodies."
Then why do you have a "too-thin" tag? Do you really hope that NO ONE is made to feel bad about their bodies, or that only overweight people are not made to feel bad about their bodies?

Why should she complain? She has made a fortune being a fat, loud and unappealing lump in the movies.
