The first twenty pot shops in Washington state are set to legally open their doors, but before business can even begin in the Evergreen State (no really, that’s what they actually call themselves) they may already be out of product!
The problem is that unlike Colorado, who also legalized recreational marijuana use, Washington’s system is similar to that of a liquor store, where shops are selling pot that’s been grown elsewhere, rather than how Colorado does it, requiring 70% of the marijuana a store sells to be grown on site!
Washington requires growers to be screened and licensed as well. And they have an absurdly long list of cannabis cultivators to inspect! So many that the state has only licensed 80 out of 2,600 applicants!
With so few growers, there’s not much bud to be bought and sold!
So take our advice, Washingtonians. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em, because you’re one of the lucky ones!
