Well, he was a lawyer WAY back in the day, so he knows how to handle himself in court.
Too bad that logic doesn't extend to the rest of his life!
Donald Sterling is fighting his estranged wife Shelly Sterling who wants to sell the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer for a cool $2 billion, and one of his main arguments is that he can get way more money than that!
The banned owner took the witness stand on Tuesday and provided a lot of quotes as he was questioned by Shelly's lawyer Bert Fields. The two's exchange was described as "captivating" and "the highlight of the trial's second day."
Donald Sterling hopes to convince the court that he is lucid enough to keep his role as the trustee of the family trust, and also hopes the results of this trial will allow him to control the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers and not his estranged wife Shelly.
Donald Sterling believes he can command a lot more than the $2 billion that she's got on the table. He said:
"Do you think Microsoft is foolish? Do you think they don't think and wonder where they're going to get the money back? There's no ego involved here. There's tremendous opportunity."
His lawyer Bobby Samini believes that Donald's testimony absolutely proves that he is competent. He said:
“The claim that he lacks competency is a shamA lot of people talk about things tangentially. I don’t know how that makes them incompetent. He has a lot to say. He has a lot on his chest. And I think he wanted to use this opportunity to try to get some of this out.”
Well, he may have even MORE chances to get stuff off his chest!
Donald Sterling is due back in court and is so far expected to resume testimony.
This trial definitely seems to be turning into a circus act, but hey — maybe that is what Donald wants!
Who can ever know with this guy?
