Just when you thought Hollywood had no freshwater ideas left!
There have been quite a few movies about mermaids over the years, but Disney's re-imagining the 1984 hit of Splash already has us foaming at the mouth — because it will star Channing Tatum as a MERMAN!
According to Deadline, the remake will be a gender swapped take on the original romance film — which launched the careers of Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah — about a man who falls in love with a mermaid who saved his life as a young boy.
The idea was pitched by Workaholics star Jillian Bell, who will be playing Hanks' role in the human-mermaid love equation. That means in this version, the Magic Mike star will fulfill our fantasies by playing the mermaid (ahem, we mean mer-MAN)!
We have a feeling this version will have a lot more comedy in it, but even so — Tatum washing up on shore as a mythical sea creature might not make a splash with modern day audiences.
Do YOU think this intriguing re-imagining of Splash is a refreshing take on an old classic, or will this sink to the abyss of the box office? Cast your votes (below)!
It seems like it's been forever since we last saw Meg Ryan on Tom Hanks onscreen together for the THIRD time in You've Got Mail, but thanks to Ryan's directorial debut, the two veteran actors will be reunited again!
The 54-year-old actress has completed directing her first film Ithaca — a drama about a teenager who supports his widowed mother by working as a telegraph messenger during World War II — and she got her old pal Tom to do a small part!
The actress gushed about Hanks, who only appears in a quick scene as Ryan's deceased husband, saying:
"He's just so dear. He so did not have to do that. At the end of his time, he says to the crew, ‘All right, gather ‘round. Listen, I know we've gotten to know each other very well over the last 10 hours together, but I just want to thank you for being here for my friend Meg.'"
Ch-ch-check out the emotional trailer for Meg's new flick (below) and let us know if you'll be catching the tearjerker when it opens September 9!
In a recent interview with the Radio Times, the 59-year-old admitted that becoming diabetic was nobody's fault but his own, saying:
"I'm part of the lazy American generation that has blindly kept dancing through the party and now finds ourselves with a malady. I was heavy. You've seen me in movies. You know what I looked like. I was a total idiot."
The A-lister confessed that his poor diet is what put him in this position, and he wasn't very cautious in his attempts to avoid the diagnosis:
"I thought I could avoid it by removing the buns from my cheeseburgers. Well, it takes a little bit more than that."
And while he's criticizing his past actions, the movie star is much more optimistic when it comes to his future, adding:
Geena attended along with costars Tracy Reiner, Anne Ramsay, Freddie Simpson, Megan Cavanaugh, and Patti Pelton; unfortunately, Tom Hanks, Lori Petty, Rosie O'Donnell, and Madonna couldn't make it out.
