This is completely tragic.
It's being reported that two NYPD police officers were shot in Brooklyn at around 3pm on Saturday, in what one law enforcement source called "an execution." The shooting took place near the Tompkins Houses apartment buildings at Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues. Both officers have reportedly died.
The gunman reportedly was "pumping bullets" into their patrol car, which they were sitting in. The gunman then ran to a nearby subway station, where he was shot and killed. It's not clear if the police shot him or if he killed himself.
A high-ranking police official said:
"The perp came out of the houses, walked up behind the car and lit them up."

No one likes the crying baby on a plane, but sometimes stuff happens, and parents do their best to calm their kids… but that didn't seem to matter on this Air China flight.
A fight involving three women broke out in the aisles after two women asked 27-year-old mother Chan Juan Sung to hush her baby on the 9am flight from Chongqing to Hong Kong.
Then the women exacerbated the situation by reclining theirs seats, which it was totally their right to do — but come on, the seats are small enough without taking up all the space possible (at least ask the person behind you if it's OK!), and you don't need to be so passive aggressive.
That's when the momma bear got angry and started swinging! Passenger Xiong Wan explained:
This is so sad.
Sunrise anchor Natalie Barr broke down on air while reporting on the hostage siege in Sydney after discovering she knew one of the two victims. The gunman was also killed. Natalie broke down while relaying the identities of those who lost their lives:
"Katrina Dawson was the sister of a prominent barrister [lawyer] Sandy Dawson who has done some work for Channel Seven. I know (him) and have friends who know, she was a mother of three children. I'm just finding this out this morning."
Barr remained shaken for the rest of the report.
The two victims were lauded as heroes.

This is just heartbreaking.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a shooting at a Pakistani school in Peshawar on Tuesday. Pakistan's Major General Asim Salim has revealed that the death toll is at 132 children and nine staff members. Luckily, we're hearing 960 students and staff made it through.

Reportedly at 10am, five to six gunmen scaled the rear wall of the school's main building, and began the siege. The high school compound was a military-run establishment, and was under attack from the militants for eight hours.
Taliban spokesman Muhammad Umar Khorasani immediately claimed responsibility, and said:
It's finally over.
In case you haven't heard, an undisclosed number of people were taken hostage in Sydney, Australia's Lindt Chocolat Cafe on Monday morning around 9:45 a.m.
Six hours into the siege, five hostages managed to escape. Hours later, the New South Wales police announced the end of the siege at 02:44 a.m. on Tuesday after tactical units stormed the building.
Sources have been reporting several injuries and possible deaths. Police have identified the gunman as Man Haron Monis, a 50-year-old Muslim cleric who was granted political asylum in Australia after fleeing his country in 1996.
Monis was reportedly shot and killed at the scene; others may also be dead but this has not yet been confirmed. Several have been injured.
Officials are saying Monis acted alone, and was not part of a larger terrorist plot.
Updates to follow.
