9 Horror Movies VS The True Stories They're Based On!

The Conjuring

Real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren "investigated" an Annabelle doll alright -- but it wasn't an obviously evil thing that no one would ever have on their shelf, as portrayed in The Conjuring. No, the doll was actually a mass-produced Raggedy Ann doll, and two nursing students claimed they would find it in positions they didn't leave it in -- and sometimes with spots of blood on it. A medium told them it was possessed by the spirit of a girl named Annabelle. It never killed anyone, as it did in the two spinoff films, but the fiancé of one of the girls did wake up with scratches and saw the doll on the floor near him. That's when they called the Warrens who declared the Raggedy Ann demonically possessed and put it on display in their museum.
