Katy Perry Publicly Defends 'Positive' Ellen DeGeneres Amid Toxic Talk Show Drama!

Katy Perry defends Ellen DeGeneres amid drama surrounding her talk show.

In a sea full of complaints about Ellen DeGeneres and the toxic environment that allegedly exists behind-the-scenes of her titular show, Katy Perry has decided to throw the host a life vest.

Taking to her Twitter account early Tuesday morning, the Never Worn White singer openly expressed her support for DeGeneres, making her one the only few celebs to do so (apart from the 62-year-old’s wife Portia de Rossi, of course) amid the ongoing drama.

According to Perry’s perspective, Ellen has only been kind to her and in general, done more good than harm to people over the years:

“I know I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience besides my own but I want to acknowledge that I have only ever had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen & on the @theellenshow. I think we all have witnessed the light & continual fight for equality that she has brought to the world through her platform for decades. Sending you love & a hug, friend @TheEllenShow”

While that might be her truth, it’s a far cry from what ex-employees and other celebrity guests have said about the “toxic” daytime TV host over the last few days! We’ve heard the mounting allegations of bad behavior have gotten so unbearable that DeGeneres fully “wants out of the show” ASAP, and stars like Kristen Bell, Jennifer Aniston, Sean Hayes, Melissa McCarthy, and James Corden are being considered to fill her spot.

See Katy’s kind public defense again here:

As we mentioned at the top, public support for the Emmy-winning host has been abysmal — though she did get a rather bizarre and unexpected boost from her wife Portia. The 47-year-old Scandal actress took to her Instagram page and shared a graphic which read, “I STAND BY ELLEN,” writing this message to followers along with the slogan:

“To all our fans….we see you. Thank you for your support. #stopbotattacks #IStandWithEllenDeGeneres #IStandByEllen ‪#IstandByEllenDeGeneres ‬#ellendegeneres #ellen #theellenshow #ellenshow #bekindtooneanother”

The obvious PR campaign would actually be decent if it didn’t come with the caveat that those who are speaking ill against Ellen are just a bunch of “bots.” As a reminder, BuzzFeed News anonymously cited accusations from former and current staffers on The Ellen DeGeneres show in their exposé, and stars like Brad Garrett have also come forward with stories about the funny woman. These are real people — not bots — and their claims are only gaining traction as the days go by. Nothing to joke about or reduce to just trolling here!

Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile also slammed the “unprecedented” attack on DeGeneres and expressed gratitude for everything she’s done for the LGBTQ community — but her support for the gay community isn’t what needs to be apologized for here. It’s the mounting list of grievances that has since prompted parent company Warner Media to launch an in-house investigation into the matter.

In addition to Ellen’s apology to staff, an internal meeting was reportedly held so producers of the hit daytime talk show could address the onslaught of reports about the allegedly dangerous environment of the show and claims of sexual misconduct. An insider explained to Us Weekly:

“They said a lot of [the claims are] true and a lot of it is not true. They said we are handling everything [and] things will be very different now… A show that brings so much happiness and fun, it should be a happy show to work on.”

Do U think any of this will make a difference with Katy’s show of support? Do U think other stars will dare to get anywhere close to this by speaking up, too? Let us know (below) in the comments!
