You Know Nothing Unless You Take This Awesome Game Of Thrones Class!

| Filed under: BookzSchoolGame Of ThronesGIFs

game of thrones course university of virginia

If only this class were available to the Jon Snow, then Ygritte wouldn't rub his cluelessness in his face so much! HA!

But then, maybe the show wouldn't have earned as many Emmy nods as it did!

So now, not only can you watch Game of Thrones on HBO, but now you can actually STUDY it thanks to the class being offered at the University of Virginia!

(Looks like someone's taking advice from the professor who created the Miley Cyrus sociology course!)

But, wait, GoT is based on a book series, what's the big deal that there's a college course on it?

Well, Lisa Woolfork, the professor of the summer class at UVA, explains that it's much MORE than just a silly old English class.

In fact, she's teaching the books along with the HBO episodes and proving that the series doesn't "ruin" the books, but they enhance the reading experience!

She said:

'One of the goals behind this class was to teach students how the skills that we use to study literature are very useful skills for reading literature and TV in conjunction. Game of Thrones is popular, it’s interesting, but it’s also very serious. There are a lot of things in the series that are very weighty, and very meaningful, and can be illuminated through the skills of literary analysis'

It’s so literary – how in-depth it is, how robust it is, how much there is to discuss about it. But we’re also very concerned about the pop culture aspects, how we as viewers receive Game of Thrones. I think it’s important to apply the same principles we do with literature to television and film…'

WHOA! How exciting does THAT sound!

We wonder what the next pop culture-induced college class will be?

The Avengers differences in comic books and movies? Taylor Swift's influence on the music industry?

So many options!
