On Tuesday's show, D'Angelo took the stage with Prince cover band Princess – made up of Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum — for an emotional performance of Sometimes It Snows in April.
With the entire stage draped in purple lighting, D'Angelo played the keyboard as Rudolph and Lieberum sang the backup harmonies on the 1986 track.
During the song, the R&B star changed the original lyrics to send a special message to the late icon, singing:
"I often dream of heaven and I know that Prince is there."

Well after getting his mind right, the gold medal athlete decided to turn things around and announce that he would be coming out of retirement and competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio this year!
Of course, many fans are still curious about Phelps' troubles, so the studly swimmer sat down with Matt Lauer on TODAY to get completely candid about his problems.
Not only did the Olympian admit he was in a "downward spiral" but he went on to dish there was even a point when he "didn't want to see another day." Thankfully, the aquatic athlete now has a new outlook on life and is looking forward to retiring the way he wants to retire!
Ch-ch-check out Michael's interview with Matt (below) and let us know your thoughts on the athlete's return to glory!
Well at least he's answering questions this time…
On Tuesday, Mathew Knowles was once again asked about his daughter Beyoncé's sixth studio album Lemonade.
Rather than dance around answering questions about the incredibly personal project, the Hold Up singer's poppa FINALLY addressed who the album is "actually" about.

The whole drama surrounding Live with Kelly and Michael has almost been out of control ever since Michael Strahan announced he would be leaving!
Well Kelly did receive an apology from Disney and ABC for not letting her know about Strahan's exit first, but she was OBVIOUSLY still pretty pissed about the whole thing at her first show back yesterday.
One of the biggest surprises from the former soap opera star's return though was that the show announced Michael would no longer be leaving in September, but rather his last Live show would be May 13 — four months early!
While this sounds like the network trying to make up for their mistakes, an insider revealed to Us Weekly that Kelly is still "talking about leaving."
The insider went on to reveal that even though Jerry O'Connell is being considered, Ripa
Good news for Kesha fans!
Rumors started circulating earlier this week that the Tik Tok artist was back making music again after Zedd teased on Instagram that they were hanging in the studio together. Of course, it wasn't long before the blonde beauty confirmed the studio session with her own pic (above) from the recording booth.
LOVES it! For the snap, the Die Young singer wrote:
We are big fan of Dami Im!
We first mentioned her two years ago in this post. Now, the X Factor Oz champ is representing Australia in the Eurovision song contest. Yes, Australia is now competing!
And, yes, her song is really good! That means it won't win. Eurovision doesn't usually reward good songs!
Check out her big pop power ballad Sound Of Silence above!
This is totally a Kelly Clarkson or Celine Dion type of power jam! Or Heart!
