The catwalk heard round the world!!
Last week Toddlers & Tiaras got a lot of publicity after they aired a pageant where a mom dressed her 3-year-old daughter up like the prostitute Julia Roberts played in Pretty Woman.
trashy moms are speaking out in an attempt to clear their reputations as moms, as well as the reputation of "the sport" of child pageantry!
Wendy Dickey, mother of the 3-year-old Juila Roberts look-alike said she thought the hooker costume was "tasteful and funny." Though added:
"If I knew there would be a reaction like this, I never would have used it. Next time, she'll be dressed as an angel."
So you will change, but only because we don't like it…. and not because it's sexualizing your daughter??
"If this were a sport, no one would question it. This is her sport,"
says confused pageant mom Juana Myers who's little MaKenzie has also been featured on Toddlers & Tiaras. Clearly this woman knows very little about sports.
Let's see, sports teach children teamwork, athleticism, motor skills and social skills. Pageants teach girls they need makeup, padded chests, and costumes to be pretty, and encourages girls to be ranked biased on looks.
Licensed clinical social worker Mark Sichel says pageants like these
"causes the children tremendous confusion, wondering why they are not okay without those things."
So yeah, this isn't a sport. Good try though!
